Day 6, Denia to ValenciaWe only stayed one day in Denia as we did in Benidorm. Now we move to next stop, Valencia. Gunilla is working hard to find the best transport, fast and cheap. Denia:Here are we waiting for our bus that will take us to Valencia, a much bigger city. The bus take us direct to the center of Valencia, just outside the old town. This day move from Denia to Valencia was a bit longer, 110 km. Valencia:The bus station at Valencia where we arrived. There is a moat running around the old town of Valencia. There is no water here today and we can made a short cut over it to enter the old town. Gunilla looking desperately after a cafe, here we found one and I got an icecream. Quart Towers:When we walk into the center of city we took the way through the gate Quart Tower. Big and impressive. From here we get a first glimpse where we shall stay the two coming days. The gate from behind, it's an open three level design. We have seen this on other places too. We felt a bit hungry and start looking for some place to eat. We found a very small cousy place, hole in the wall as they say. Two tapas and two glas of wine, 4 Euro, great beginning ! More information about Valencia:
After we had eaten we walk to our stay which is in the old town. This time we have chosen a large apartment of 50 square meters and city view. But this was a disaster, something went wrong. They said to us that we must get out of the flat and they moved us up to an attic apartment. Only 35 square meter and almost no window, the two 10x30cm windows were 1.9 meters above the floor, no city view. You can't always trust what you book and pay for. Out on the streets again for a walk. We saw on the map that there is another tower on the other side of the town. That's where we go now. On the we found many nice places to eat and drink, but this is too early to be open, about 4 pm. At the ground, a cat house. Serranos Towers:After a short walk we came to the other tower. There are only these two towers preserved today. It's massive and earlier the defense walls connected to the towers. The moat, maybe there has never been water in this moat surrounding Valencia. There are information about the war 1808 and at the painting from this war I can't see any water. More information about Battle of Valencia:
Tower of Saint Bartolome:When we walked towards the center of old town we see this tower. According to the map it's the Tower of Saint Bartolome, but we are not sure about that. The tower with that name is another tower, part of a church. Placa de Manises:At the square we have this building, the map is confusing. It point to another building. Maybe this is the building where the President live. At the square Placa de Manises there is an statue, behind the tree, Estatua del protector de la bandera. Map over Valencia Old Town. Continue walking the street Pl. de Manises towards the big square where the cathedral is. Placa de la Mare de Deu:At this big square we have restaurants and cafeterias. In front of us, the cathredal, Basílica de la Mare de Déu dels Desemparats. More information about Virgin Mary:
At the same square we have this nice looking fountain, Turia Fountain. More information about Valencia:

Valencia Cathedral:The cathedral of Valencia, we are not sure if the whole block is a cathedral. We follow the building to the backside. Walking further to the Valencia cathedral's tower, here it is in front of us. But a bit confusing, a sign say it's the church El Micalet. On the backside of the cathedral there is another door, lot of people visiting it today. Santa Caterina:There are towers everywhere, this tower belongs to Santa Caterina. Placa Redona:Now we are hungry and want to find a nice restaurant. But most of them serve big dinners and we want some small mixed dish to eat. Here we have come to the square Placa Redona. In the alley it's nice but we didn't find the food that taste us. Just beside the square was a cosy restaurant. But we went on. Mercado Central de Valencia:We decided to walk back to the area where we live, on the way we pass by the market. Big but closed, we must come back here tomorrow. La Llotja de la Seda:On the other side of the street we have this building, La Lonja de la Seda. Once an oil and silk trade center. It's a must to see we can read now, to late. More information about Lonja de la Seda:
Now we have walking around the alleys and don't know where we are, we got lost. We have to turn on the GPS and let it point to our stay where we live. Very close to where we live there was a nice little pub, beer and tapas. The beer I took, the left one was something with oak smoke. Interesting but not my favorite. |
