Day 1, Stockholm to AlicanteThe flight depart early in the morning and we have to get up early, 2 o' clock. The last years we have got a night bus stop just outside our flat which is really good. After one and a half hour we are at the airport Arlanda in Stockholm. Arlanda, Stockholm:We looked out through the window at the airport and could see our plane waiting for us. Dark and cold, it's November. Alicante:About 11 am we arrived in Alicante, what a difference, more than 20 degrees Celsius and palm trees. We take out the direction to the hotel we had booked. Google Map over Alicante:Alicante's old town is where the marina is. That's where we walking around the first three days. At Wikipedia you find more information about Alicante:
Our hotel wasn't difficult to find, it stand out from the others. Here we will stay the first three days on our trip to Barcelona. Our room is on the 26th floor, lot of buttons to chose from. We install us in the room and sat down at the window to enjoy the view. We are really high up, even the high buildings look small from here. To the right of the big street is the old town of Alicante. Alicante, Old Town:After a rest of an hour or two we walked out from the hotel. Theatre Principal d'Alacant:Nearby is also a theatre, they have some play going on. But for us is it the outdoor where we want to be. This is the street Pl Ruperto Chapi. At Wikipedia you find more information about Theatre Principal (only Spanish):
The Old Town is really nice to walk around in. A lot of streets are free from cars. The streets here are not asphalt, they are marble ! Our high hotel has competition of another hotel, this is closer to the harbor. Street San Francisco:More walking and we came to this street. It looks like it's inspired by the fairy tale book Alice in Wonderland. This street also have a lot of restaurants. Plaza Calvo Sotelo:This park is close to our hotel and we walked through it many times. Aveny del Dr Gadea:Back to the main street, Aveny del Dr Gadea and we have a look towards our hotel. Placa de Los Luceros:We follow the aveny to the road roundabout that we could see from our room. It's a park and it has the name: Placa de Los Luceros. Street San Francisco:It's time for us to have something to eat, it's not late yet and the restaurants have just start to open. After some walk we came back to Street San Francisco where we started, they also call it for Mushroom Street. Found an Italian restaurant and we ordered a pizza to share and a bottle of Sangria. Square Placa Santisima Faz:There are many nice squares in Alicante and most of them has restaurants or cafes. |

During the time when we ate it has become darker and the lights turn on. For tomorrow we have planned for a walk up to the fort. I have been there 15 years ago and remember weakly which way we took. Now we looking for it. This area of the Alicante has a lot of small alleys, often steep. Basilica de Santa Maria d'Alacant:We found a church that was open and walk toward it. It was some ceremony going on and we didn't want to disturb and walked out again. More information about Basilica Santa Maria:
Here we found a small street which goes in the direction to the fort. These stairs are only the beginning. Street C Balseta:Follow another street, C Balseta and found this very narrow house. Just wondering, how would it look like from the inside ? Torre de la Polvora:At the end of the street we found a ruin of the Torre de la Polvora, part of the old defense wall. We didn't sleep much last night and feel we have to walk back to our hotel now. Found stairs behind the tower that take us down to the lower level again. Placa de Ajuntamento:On the way back to our hotel we pass through some sort of fashion show, it was something about a new car. Lot of people here. During the walk we enjoy all beautiful buildings we pass by. Monumento a Canalejas:Before we go the last streets to the hotel we walk down to the harbor. There is this fantastic statue, Monumento a Canalejas, beautiful lit up by the light. Behind the statue is this tower building. That was all, now we must have some sleep. We have earlier during the day bought some yogurt and sandwiches for breakfast. |
