Day 2, Alicante old townThis day is the plan to walk up to the fort Santa Barbara. But we didn't sleep very well because we had very heavy wind last night and when staying on 26th floor you feel it. Alicante:Waking up in the morning and started to prepare our breakfast. At this stay we had a kitchen which let us make our own breakfast. Sandwiches with cheese and ham, orange juice, yogurt and coffee. Sitting here and enjoy the view is breathtaking. Last evening and during the night it has been very strong winds and we didn't sleep very well because of the noise. Mercado Central de Alicante:On the way to the fort Santa Barbara we pass by the Mercado. They are always interesting and we get into it for a look. The Market building was build the years 1915-1921. We found the usual things we found at a market place. The prices compare to what you find at a super market is of course much more expensive. All food prices in Spin is much higher today compare to a couple of years ago. More information about Mercado de Alicante (only Spanish):
Here we have came to the foot of the mountain where the castle Santa Barbara is placed. Street San Rafael:It didn't took very long until we found the street San Rafael that I remember from my earlier visit here. It will take us up to the castle, for me it's more like a fort. We pass this little square, what I remember it was a small restaurant here, maybe closed for the season. It's not walking here, it's climbing. Our bodies are more used to sit in front of the computer, not climbing like this. Half way up the San Rafael street. We now leave the nice block with all the white small houses. |

Above us we see the lower part of the defense wall. Maybe we should leave it for tomorrow and go somewhere to get a lunch. We follow a small street or walking path to the harbor. From here we have great views over Alicante. We can still see the castle up there, we know there is an elevator, but if we take the elevator we miss the breathtaking views. Street C/ San Juan:After some walk we came down to the street C/ San Juan and follow it. Along this street we found a street cafe. Ordered toasts, ice cream and coffee. Colud it be better, enjoy the view. This is far from the old city and the prices are much lower. Playa del Postiguet:After the lunch we walk over a bridge to the beach. This is the Playa del Postiguet. Lucky people to have a beach in the city. It is November but still it is warm enough for people to sunbathe and swim. We follow the beach back to the old town. The beach from above. Casa Carbonel:Beautiful building built 1920. In that time it must have been placed at the beach. More information about Casa Carbonell (only Spanish):
Marina Esportiva del Port d'Alacant:Alicante has a big marina. Lot of luxurious boats, but they are not used. It must cost a fortune to have a big boat like these abchored here. Walking, eating and more walking. Tired we got back to our room and sit down at the window and looked out. |
