Planning our first trip to FuerteventuraTwo years ago we visited the Canary Island Lanzarote, from the Southern tip of the island we could look over to Fuerteventura. Now we visited this island and we didn't have to do much planning this time, we took the first cheap charter we could get. Google Map over Fuerteventura:At Wikipedia you find more information about Fuerteventura:

Day 1:Stockholm to Fuerteventura:Set the alarm to 3:30 am. Get on the subway, take another local train and then another local bus to get to our airport Arlanda. From that there was no more problem. After 6 hours we landed at Fuerteventura's airport. We didn't book any transfer bus, just a few kilometers to our hotel, we took the local bus, only 1.4 Euro. We saved some money that we could use for a dinner or something else. Caleta de Fuste:It took only 15 minutes for the bus to take us to the hotel. This time we booked a bungalow, this is the entrance to the hotel area. After we had installed us on the room we took a walk, Gunilla found some flowers that she liked, at home they are much smaller. After 11 hours travel we are hungry, we cross the street and walk into the shopping area. Lot of restaurants to chose from. After we finished the dinner we walked further, down to the beach. There are not many tourists here because of the Covid problems. The local people's economy suffer when there are so few tourists here. An old fortress, or is it something new they have built to attract tourists ? Down to the harbor, a glass bottom boat and a catamaran. We got a little bit disappointed now because they didn't have any excursions these days, too few tourists. The old light house, nowadays a tourist attraction. |

Pirate bay, we have just followed the TV serie "Black Flag" which is about pirates. Sleepy cats. At Wikipedia you find more information about Caleta de Fuste:
Day 2:Our walks these two first days: Our hotel's pool, very nice. Today we decided to take walks around the area where we live. We walked down to the beach and then start walking towards North. Just a few minutes and we are outside the living area. The sign tell us that it's only 20 km to Lanzarote, but then we need to swim a lot. At distance we could see some sort of tower, what is that ? Costa de Antigua:Curious as we are we had to walk to that tower and see what it is. It looks to be abandoned, must have been some sort of pleasure area. |
It's in the Lagos de Antigua. Strange why they have abandoned it, it most have cost a lot of money to build. On the way back we stopped at this lagoon, now the tide is high, the water level variation is about 1.5 m. A popular place to visit, we saw it already at home when we looked at YouTube videos about Fuerteventura. Around the shopping center where we live there are beautiful parks. Caleta de Fuste has got its Santa Claus already ! Now we are on the move to South of Caleta de Fuste. Playa de la Guirra:Palm trees are exotic for us who live in the North. This is a free open beach for all. Some of them can be private and belong to hotels. There is a cafeteria out on the pier and Gunilla likes coffee, of course we must visit it. Also here they have spent some time to make it nice looking. |
We have seen at videos and maps that there is a fortress somewhere South from where we stay. This is it, still we are not sure if these fortress we see are new or something antique. Water flows up from the ground and there are a lot of big fishes in this lake that have been formed here. It flows out into the ocean. Now back to the hotel for a rest. Caleta de Fuste:Out in the evening for a dinner, it's the end of November and they are preparing for Christmas decoration.
