Quartu Sant Elena to Cala Gonone, day 7: |
Quartu Sant Elena:
Our
schedule for today: After about 15 km driving in eastern direction along the coast the road climb upwards, now we have about 5 km to the beach Cala Sinzias. But it's a very narrow road, the German warned us about the roads, but we like small roads, not autobahn. Down there could be the beach Punta Molentis, but not for sure. Cala Sinzias:Gunilla rush out to the beach, we have reach one of our places that we planned for today, beach Cala Sinzias.
The German was correct, this beach was very attractive. We stayed here for one hour to get the view memorized in our memories. To come to next place, the observatory in our plan we have to drive up in the mountains. Small curved narrow roads with fantastic views. Jerzu:Now our usual problem, to find a restaurant that is open when we are hungry, after a while we found this Ristorante. We got Spagetti Carbonara and a Spagetti Campidanese. |

This little village climbing along the cliff with a narrow road along the village that divide it in an upper and lower part. Observatory Astronomico Ferdinando Caliumi:The first glimps of the observatory Astronomico Ferdinando Caliumi, you see it at the rim a bit to the right. Up to this point the road was very good, now a much more narrow road takes over with lot of holes. But it's just a couple of hundreds meter left to the parking. After we parked the car we walk up the step road to the observatory. A green building with a doom, this is the observatory house. The observatory is at an altitude of 1100 meters. Wow, what a view we had here, perfect for astronomical observations, almost above the clouds and no street lights. On one of the walls there is a solar clock.
When driving back to the coast we took the north road down, this one was worse but more exiting. |
Oops... wild horses, drive carefully! Nuoro:
It starts to darkening and we tried to save time, we took a shortcut to not to have pass the city Nuoro, but it didn't end very well. The bridge over the river had shattered after the spring river. There were no signs that the bridge was broken, just a pile of gravel on the roadway as a warning.
This driver was in more hurry then we was, maybe it didn't have anything with the bridge to do, but it was just beside. After we had tried another shortcut that also ended with a broken bridge we at last was on the correct way, just 20 km left to Cala Gonone where we had our hotel for this nights stay. A beautiful mountain lit by the evening sun, maybe Monte Tiscali. Cala Gonone:When we had checked in at the hotel we took an evening walk along the restaurant street. An evening meal and then a walk back to the hotel. The evening temperature was about 17 degree Celsius, just a summer jacket needed.
