My travel in Europe:
|
One week by car at island of Sardinia, 2017
Alghero to Oristano, day 4: |
Alghero:Our host Severine, who was French, served us breakfast. Lots of goodies just like we had at the previous accommodations. It tasted very well but we are a bit surprised that in Italy they do not serve more vegetables. In Spain, they have a much larger share of vegetables. In Alghero we staid at the Poseidon B&B, the previous accommodations had been at hotels. This room was really very spacious and very well decorated as well. It was just a few hundred meters away from the old city and we had free parking at a nearby street. After breakfast Severine gave us several tips on what to see when we head south. On our walk to the car we passed a market place, we couldn't resist to make a visit inside. By mistake we took the wrong road out from Alghero. We had to go back and take the smaller road along the coast, Strada Provinciale or SP105/SP49. In the background you can see the dramatic cliffs we visited yesterday. Along the road there are many places where you can park your car and have a view of the Mediterranean Sea. The water is very clear, sometimes emerald green as here or sometimes very deep blue. Vascheta Di Cui Peppi:If I'm correct this is Vascheta Di Cui Peppi, seems to be a very popular beach in the high season. Now in the low season we were almost alone. |

The sea looked very inviting, but Gunilla complained that it was very cold in the water :-) Countless of places we took a break at. Each time we stopped to watch the view, those cyclists came to us agin. What fitness they must have, because it's very steep along the road to cycle. The road is of high quality, you don't have to be afraid to drive here. But when you turn off from the road to park, watch out then, the edge can be very high, do not destroy the tires on your car! Hmm... bullet holes, don't trespass! We are now closing in to Bosa, next village to visit. Bosa:We didn't expect to see very much interesting here, but we were wrong. Lots of things to see!
|
We already saw the castle from very far away, now we have driven up the hill to take a closer look.
After the castle visit we took the way out of Bosa city down through the harbor. Hungry? Yes! Prosciutto, ham, salami, cheese, olives and bread. Just outside the harbor there is a new beach for us and an old watch or defense tower. The water temperature was a bit warmer here and Gunilla could get her swim. The air temperature has been about 20 to 25 o Celsius these four first days. After we had driven a couple of kilometers out from Bosa we stopped. We must have another photo of the lovely beach and the harbor of Bosa. Tharros:Today's great visit was to the archaeological excavations at Tharros.
|
We were a bit late so we had to hurry before they closed. We bought a combine ticket that included: A visit to the tower, a visit to the Roman excavations and last a visit to the nearby museum. At the top of the tower we had a beautiful view over the Mediterranean Sea and the excavation areas.
After the tower visit we came down to the archaeological excavations. We get a map as a loan so we could orient ourselves and find the most efficient way to walk, just one hour left. Do you think sliding doors are some new invention? No no, the Romans built them already 2000 years ago!

Thermal bath.
Now we are close to the old palace. What a magnificent portal! The palace, now we must get out from the area, they close in just a few minutes. |
We now only have the museum left to visit today, but they close later so no hurry. This was great for people like us who like old stuff. After some stressful 20 minutes in the traffic in Oristana with a lot of one way streets we found the hotel and a car park, then we were able to relax. At the booking site this hotel looked great, what did we find?
More than we expected to find, we like it very much! The name of the hotel was Mariano IV. Before we go to the restaurant we took a short walk to see if we could find something interesting to look at. This tower must once had been a part of the old defense wall of the city. Then we where ready for a dinner, we found a restaurant just close to the hotel. A Risotto for Gunilla and a Prosciutto with Focaccia for me and a bottle of vine, very tasty.
