Day 15, Schwerin 2nd day:Second day in Schwerin and we like this little town a lot. Here is a map of over Schwerin: This day we stay at the center of Schwerin. Schwerin:Our first breakfast at our hotel Elefant. It isn't so hard to understand where the name come from. A big beautiful roof window give light to the room. They told us that this hotel was built 1860, 1870 this Elefant hall was added. The style came from this era, the colonial era, and that's a lot about Africa. Our little cozy room at the attic. It was hot these days and the fan was set to high speed all the night. To the right the private bathroom. We start the morning with a walk back to the main-made lake at the other side of old town. Today empty, everything from yesterday's competition is gone. We sat down at a cafe and took something to drink. I ordered a Coca Cola, but got a Black Cola, Germany's answer to U.S. Coca Cola. Most important, it is cool. Our plan today is to take a trip with the Hop On Hop Off bus. Before we must go to the Marktplatz where the tourist information is to get some information. We got the information that the bus stop at Schelfmarkt was most practical place to jump on the bus from. Not far away, five minutes walk. At Schelfplatz there is this church, Schelfkirche. The bus will stop at the other side but we wait here in the Shadow. |
Schelfmarkt a block with older buildings. The bus arrived and we jumped on, bought two 15 Euro tickets. To get the best view we sat on the upper deck, it's a cabriolet. Little bad that it had glass windows on the sides, make the photos worse. The Mecklenburgstrasse and a look from above. It's half past 1 pm but not many people out on the street. The man-made lake Pfaffenteich. Yesterday it was a lot of tent with restaurants and bars here. The bus take us to the Western side of old town where we haven't been before. After a while we came to the castle Schwerin, but turn right here. The old mill, Schleifmuhle Schwerin. We have read about it but never visit it. Here are more information about the mill Schleifmuhle Schwerin (only german):
The garden of the castle. The bus made a stop here for five minutes. |

This must be the Altes Offizierskasino that the guide told about. The bus stop at the main station which is near the castle. Next tour will be in 30 minutes. We spend that time to walk around the castle area. Found these two Indian motor cycles, what beauties. From here there are guided boat tours on the lakes. We thought about to take a boat tour, but then we spend 2 hours on that, and we wanted to finish the bus tour first. After 30 minutes we jumped on the bus again and come back to where we started after a tour around the lake. We walk back into to old town and look after some restaurant where we could eat some. Today we were not very hungry and we ordered one toast each with a beer. The restaurant where we sit is at the Marktplatz where we have been many times now. The weather looks like it could be rain, we decided to walk back to our hotel. Found this house and wonder what it was, very few and small windows. Last time we left the hotel we used a short cut to come to the shopping street direct. Now we use that shortcut to get to our hotel, the street is Mecklenburgerstrasse. |
A few minutes after we got into the hotel it started to rain heavily. We could sit under the tent and enjoy it, it wasn't cold out. We celebrate our 15th day on travel in Germany. What nice time we have had these 16 days, Northern Germany is really nice and we had enjoyed our travel, and no accident yet. The Elefant Hall. The host invited us to have a look into this dining hall. What a great hall and the princess is sitting in the chair. Next to the hall is the bar. Here are more information about Schwerin:
