My travel in Europe:
Lanzarote, island of Spain, 2020

Day III: Bus tour to los Hervideros, El Golfo and Timanfaya:

We found the guided tours a bit expensive, at least if you want to do many of them. One plan was to rent a car the whole week, but it's not easy to find a parking lot in this town. An alternative is to take a low price guided tour were you have to participate a talk about a product. We decided to do that alternative this day and not to have be stressed by a car. The guided tour will take us to los Hervideros, El Golfo and Timanfaya.

Google Map over today's bus tour:

Today's guided bus tour, 80 km.

Puerto del Carmen:

The bus picked us up just outside the hotel. There were a lot of people waiting here, and at the last pickup place the bus was almost full. The cost of this guided tour included a glas of wine and a sandwich and only cost 10 Euro each. They also had other guided tours, but one is enough per vacation.

Before we come to the places we want to see we shall visited the product information place.

The information about the product took about an hour. But not that bad, good information and wine with a sandwich we got as a lunch.

Playa de Janubio:

One week at Lanzarote, Spain 2020

On hour way to los Hervideros we passed this beach, Playa de Janubio. This beach is popular among surf people, there are high waves. The squares you see in front of the beach is salt water basins, after the water has evaporated they collect the salt.

At Wikipedia you find more information about Salinas de Janubio:

los Hervideros:

First bus stop on our guided tour, the cliffs at los Hervideros. Dramatic waves, and there is almost no wind. This is on the Western side of the island.

One week at Lanzarote, Spain 2020

Over the years the waves has carved out these caves. The rock is lava from the volcanoes, lava is a soft material and it doesn't take very long time for it to erode like this.

El Golfo:

Next stop is at El Golfo. A short walk lead us up to the viewpoint. El Golfo is a small village with 500 citizen.

A collapsed lava tunnel, we will see more of them later and much bigger.

El Lago Verde, the green lake. This is at the bottom of the crater from an old volcano, the other half of the crater is out in the sea.

After twenty minutes we have to go back, but first a visit on the other cliff.

A view over the El Golfo village and then we enter the bus that take us to the next stop.

Timanfaya:

Timanfaya is a national park at Lanzarote, if I remember correct the guide said it has 100 not erupted volcanoes and 300 volcano craters.

From here you can take a camel and ride to one of the volcanoes, we took the bus all the way up to the volcano.

At the volcano center where we stopped they have some experiments to show us. This man shovels some sand and put it in our hands, it was hot, almost you couldn't hold it.

Another pit from the volcano, hot gas flow out here.

They put some grass in the pit, after some seconds it flame up in a fire.

The third experiment, a pipe was installed down in the ground, maybe to 6 meters deep.

He pour ten liters of water in the pipe and quickly step aside.

Just a few seconds later, the water boils and shoots out of the pipe in a cascade, people were told to stay aside. The restaurant here cook the food with the heat from the volcano.

After these shows we walked around in the nearby area and looked out over the landscape of volcanoes.

After this the bus take us home to the hotel at Puerto del Carmen. We were very satisfied by the guided tour, we have seen a lot of interesting places.

Puerto del Carmen:

One week at Lanzarote, Spain 2020

After a rest at the room we went out for a dinner. We found a very nice restaurant and ordered a big meal. Gunilla ate a codfish, in Spain it has the name bacalao and they served it all the year around. Gunilla is exalted because in Sweden we only have codfish at Christmas time. I ate a grilled pork dish. It tasted very good but normally we eat a lot of small dishes of food during the day so this were a bit too much.

Now we have already used up three of our eight days, but I can promise that the following day is even more exiting !
