Round trip in Andalusia in Spain, Ronda, part 5: |
Algeciras:The train waiting to take us up to Ronda which is placed up in the mountain, about 750 meters above sea level. We have a fine weather today. The railway take us through wonderful landscapes. We see a lot of people walking along the mountains. Ronda:After about two hours we arrive to the railway station Ronda.
After ten minutes walk we come to our hotel Hermanos Macias. It's a very nice hotel we have found on the internet, it also have a restaurant. Stairs to the second floor were we have our room.
Ronda Bullring museum, this is one of the older and biggest arenas in Spain.
Ronda is placed on a cliff and as you see, it's deep out there! Orson Welles and Ernest Hemingway looks to have like this place, they visited it several times and there are statues over them here. Orson is also buried here. |

View over the Mirador de Ronda. This must be that Ronda is most famous for, the bridge Puente Nuevo. This is the new one, the older one broke down in the 18th century. There is also two smaller and lower bridges.
The eastern side of Ronda is the oldest part. We now walking along the streets and looking at the shops.
|
Here we have found something exiting, a small path down to the valley under the bridge. It's very steep here and it's not so wise to walk here without helmets, lots of rocks that can fall down.
Our reward, to see the bridge from below. It's a bit exciting, no handrails. And now there is a hole in the walkway! |
I think this has been water reservoirs for the farmers. We could also see a hydro power station below in the valley. And now, we just have to walk all the way up again!
La Caribad, touch sister Angela de la Cruz finger and it gives you luck. She was very well liked by the people here in Ronda. Parroquia Santa Maria la Mayor.
|
Back to the bridge, after all walks we was tired and we went back to the hotel for a short nap.
We are early, they eat very late here. New day and the plan today is to visit the north eastern part of the old town. It seems that they have been garroted, a Spanish execution method.
|
Now we have come to the bottom of the valley, we will soon see the other two old bridges. The Roman Bridge, this is the lowest bridge. Behind the bridge is the Arab Bath.
The Arab Bridge.
The Roman bridge and Arab Bath to the right.

The new bridge, you can see on the other side the beginning of the arch from the old bridge that broke down.
Eastern part of the defense wall. |
This is the San Sebastian Minaret, the only minaret one we have seen on this round trip in Andalusia.
Today we had 16 degrees Celsius.
Alameda del Tajo.
|
We follow the English walkway along the cliff.
This evening ends with a delicious ice cream, tomorrow we travel to Marbella.
