My travel in Europe:

Western Andalusia in thirteen days
Round trip in Andalusia in Spain, Cadiz to Algeciras along the Atlantic Coast, part 4: |
Poblado Sancti Petri:Next part of our round trip we do goes along the Atlantic coast. We only found one bus and that one started early. We also want to stop at several places and take a look. We decided to rent a car to get most out of it. I booked an Opel Insignia but got a BMW 3 series instead. Small but we got all our luggage in it and 4 persons. Cost for one day, 135 Euro plus the fuel, a little bit more than expected. Our first stop after we left Cadiz was at this beach, Playa de Sancti Petri. It's only 10 km south from Cadiz and we had a beautiful view over the Atlantic Ocean. The island out there is the Isolate de Sancti Petri with its castle.
Windsurfers. We just wonder, is it possible to walk out to that island when it's low tide? Faro Trafalgar:Our next planed stop was the Faro Trafalgar, on the way to it we stayed here for a cup of coffee. Sand has blown over the road so we had to take a walk the last part.

Faro Trafalgar, built 1860.
Barbate:Explanada entrada Sendero, just before Barbate. A viewpoint we stayed at.
Bolonia:Bolonia, here we arrived 14:55, we want to see the archeological excavations of Roman ruins. The guard lock the gate 15:00 :-(
Baelo Claudia. Swedish people don't give up that easy, we found that we from the beach could see part of the Roman ruins :-)
My girlfriend thinks that the Romans colored textiles in these pits. In other places we have seen that they had similar but smaller pits to make the Roman fish sauce. At the end of this small road we had come down to we found an open restaurant. Beautiful view over the ocean and tasty food, exactly what we needed. |
The main road through the Roman city.
Puerto de Tarifa:Puerto de Tarifa.
What you see in the background is the Africa continent, it looks very close to us.
|
I have always thought that the border between the Mediterranean Sea and Atlantic Ocean was at Gibraltar. I now know better, it's here at Tarifa.
El Mirador del Estrecho:
El Mirador del Estrecho.
From here we had a clear view of over to Africa, here we could stay forever and just looking. |
Our first view of Gibraltar, and almost the only one.
Algeciras:Now we are at the end of todays travel, Algeciras. We had left the car and walking back to the hotel, it is placed close to the railway station. We didn't expected to see very much from this town, but we had a beautiful view over the harbor in the night.
Perhaps the ruins of a historic defense wall. Railway station, we had bought the tickets the day before we travel up in the mountain to Ronda.
We didn't find out what was interesting about this old wagon. A last view from our hotel room. The hotel was the only modern hotel we stayed at, big room, high standard and just a few hundred meters from the railway station. Railway station. One of our plans was to take a later train to Ronda and then get time to visit Gibraltar. But we couldn't get the time to work for us and skipped that. We could do it from Marbella later we thought.
