Andalusia in ten days
GranadaNow we leave the costal areas go up in the mountain, first we visit Granada. We also expected it to be more chillier. The Cathedral in front of our hotel. When you are in Granada the first time you think about is of course Alhambra. As usual there is a long and steep hill to climb upwards. Waiting... waiting... after 40 minutes we gave up, we must have time too see the old town. And we have already seen so many fortress under our trip. If we didn't see Alhambra inside we can at least see it from outside. We found an another way back on the backside of Alhambra, a very beautiful street. Here a lot of water coming out, I wonder what the water bill is?
After eating lunch we was back in old town. Follow the narrow alleys. To our surprise they driving cars here, and the mopeds rush through in high speed. This is the Arab Quarter, very very beautiful!
At last, here north east is the gate to old town, parts from 14th century. We are now outside. After the gate we find more rests of the old wall. It wasn't so easy too see because of the modern houses block the view. But here to the east it's easy to see it. This was an another wall but not the main wall. From Plaza de San Nicolas there was a wonderful view over Alhambra, very crowded here at evening. |

What happens when walking a lot? Hungry! We expected it to be more chillier up here in the mountain. But we had 12 to 15 degrees, no worse than we can sit outside and eat. But we was also told that in February they could have only 5 degrees. An another view of the old wall. Actually there are two walls, one old inner wall and one outer not that old. The lights shine so beautifully in the night. You can also understand why we was so exhausted after going up and down all those alleys, now the seventh day and more to come. Now back to the hotel and relaxing in the skybar. Hotel Terraza Monasterio, street Gran Capitan 1. Skybar or batman bar? Mojito and Jägermeister. Rested, prepared and a fine day for new walking. Here it's safe to walk, no cars! Part of a bridge that was used for military purpose. About 11th century. Another bridge that connect old city with Alhambra. |
Palacio de Los Cordova. Palacio de Los Cordova.
Until now we have only been in the Arab Quarters in the old city, now we head to the Gypsy Quarters. Here we also got a close look at the outer wall. What we missed was the gypsy caves, but you can read about them here: Cathedral. Modern area just outside old town 4 blocks away, I believe our hotel is in front of us and 8 blocks away. Back to street Calle Elvira, the Arab Quarters, where you find all the shops and lot of people. A last walk in the evening.
