My travel in Europe:
island of Malta

One week by walk, bus, boat and car at island of Malta, 2018

Walk back and forth to Saint Julian's, day 7:

Sliema:

Sliema, Malta

This day will just be a walking day to Saint Julian's back and forth. We take the street Triq Manwel Dimech behind our hotel to Saint Julian's. Not a long walk when you do this shortcut over the hill and not follow the harbor.

Saint Julian's:

Here we had come after 30 minutes slow walk, Balluta Bay at Saint Julian's.

What are the purpose with these stairways, fishing or?

Saint Julian's, Malta

We are now leaving the Balutta Bay and follow the harbor to next bay, the Spinola Bay.

An unfinished renovation of an old house.

Unbelievable clear water, and still we are in a city.

We found a lot of square carvings in the rocks, looking like pools. On the map they are labeled as Roman Baths, but they do not look like that and our friend Maurice thinks they are of much later date, more 18th century and made by the British.

When Google on Roman bath and Malta I found this:

That's far from this place.

Spinola Bay:

This bay was even more beautiful, lot of small fishing boats, behind the high buildings in middle is Spinola Palace, you still see the entrance from the sea, compare this photo with the old at Wiki page.

See the beautiful b/w photo from 1909 on the Wiki page, so different from today.

Nice to see all these fishing boats and they looks to use them still today.

Saint Julian's, Malta

Maltese cross painted on the boat.

Saint Julian's, Malta

This was strange, two propellers and of different sizes, and the extra only on one side. We saw many small fishing boats with this arrangement.

Boat garages, they must be for sure that the sea level doesn't raise or fall very much. As I wrote earlier, 18000 years ago the sea level was 160 meter below.

Saint Julian's, Malta

This house must be expensive to renovate, it looks as if they plan to do it.

Saint Julian's, Malta

A long stairway lead us down to Portomaso Marina.

From here we now turn back to Sliema, the way back we take the long way and follow the harbors.

Saint Julian's, Malta

We have just passed the Spinola Palace, for some strange reason we didn't take any photo of it but we didn't know then it was a palace.

Saint Julian's, Malta

The Spinola Bay and the entrance up to Spinola Palace.

Saint Julian's, Malta

Courthouse of Saint Julian's at Balluta bay.

Saint Julian's, Malta

Portomaso Business Tower is visible from far away, 97 meters tall. It's like a lighthouse.

Saint Julian's, Malta

After have passed the Exiles Bay we come to this strange rocks, looks more like concrete.

Saint Julian's, Malta

More of these square rock carvings, these are much smaller, pits and drain channels.

Saint Julian's, Malta

More of these "Roman Baths" , let us know if there is a link to a page that explain it. Contact

This channel must have been manmade.

Now we were hungry, and lucky us, there was a nice restaurant just above us with a sea view. We are now also leaving Saint Julian's and come back to Sliema.

Saint Julian's, Malta

View from restaurant, inside restaurant there was a lot of ladies playing cards.

Saint Julian's, Malta

Perfect restaurant for us! We ordered a pizza to share and drinks. We normally don't eat very much each time, more we eat often at different places when we have so lot of nice restaurants to chose from.

Saint Julian's, Malta

The restaurant was built together with an old fortress, the Sliema Piont Battery.

Saint Julian's, Malta

Sliema Pit, we didn't see many people bathing this week when we was here, water temperature about 15 degrees Celsius.

The last evening at our hotel room. Lot of photos made from our balcony.
