One week by walk, bus, boat and car at island of Malta, 2018 |
Walk and bus to the Three Cities, day 6: |
Sliema:
Today our plan is to visit the Three Cities, we didn't take the bus direct from our hotel, instead we walk along the harbor. In the background is the ship yard at the Manoel island, that we will visit the last day before we take the bus to the airport. 
Sliema ends here, all small cities are today connected to each other and you don't have to walk long before you come to another city. II-Gzira:

There are three bays to pass before we reach Valletta. 
Something to anchor the boat with? We saw a lot of them, just carved out in the rock.

We saw a lot of beautiful houses along this last part of walk, just need some renovation. From here we took the local bus to the last of the Three Cities, II-Birgu, we start walking backwards from there.
II-Birgu (Vittoriosa):
The bus stop just outside the port of Birgu, or Vittoriosa which is a more common name. These three cities are older then Valletta and has a long history.

We got a free map in a store and start walking around to look at the attractions, after a while we made up our own walk and found this view. |
Even if the houses looks old many of them are new or restored, the city was heavily bombed during the II War.

Didn't know that it existed big private boats like these, and they are made of plastic.

At the outer end of the peninsula to the right there is a fort, the Fort Saint Angelo.

Now we are finished with the city Birgo and walks along the harbor to next city. L-Isla (Senglea):
A bridge has led us over the dock dock to L-Isla or Senglea.
I can read that the population are only half compare to four years ago. But still they doing a lot of work to rebuilt old houses to office and flats. Malta's economy is built by tourism. 
A steep stairway and road led us up to the gate of Senglea. 
On the other side of the bay you see the city Birgu that we just have visited. 
We didn't walk long here until we feel it could be good with some food to eat. We walk back to the harbor to see if we could find a nice restaurant with sea view. 
This view was perfect for us and a small tasty meal with a glass of wine, we where lucky because just five minutes later the owner closed the kitchen. 
After we had eaten we continue our walk along the Eastern harbor of Senglea.

Old pack house, we are glad to see they don't take down every old house opposite too what we have done in our own city. All these old buildings give the atmosphere to give a glimpse of old days life. Bormla (Cospicua):
The last of the three cities for us to visit, Bormla or Cospicua. Only a short walk up the stairway to the church and a view over the harbor.
Time to start the walk down to the ferry that shall bring us back to Valletta.

After we had take the elevator up we had a terrific view over the Three Cities.

The park up here is the Upper Barrakka Gardens, many people walks around here and looking out over the sea.
That was all for this day, we took the other ferry back to Sliema. Later an evening meal close to the hotel and time lapse photographing from the balcony.
