6. Lochawe to Edinburgh, day 10 to 11:Map of driving from Lochawe to Edinburgh, 391 km: Lochawe:Our host gave a tips to visit a nearby church. In the morning we go to the church, outside we find this memorial, we see a lot of them along the roads. Soldiers who died in the wars: first War, second War, Africa. St. Conan's Kirk, here we stay q long time and took a lot of photos, you will understand why.
They say Kirk, not Church. Maybe the name comes from the old Norway Vikings a thousand years ago, they ruled over a big part of Great Britian. In Sweden we say Kyrka.

Loch Awe just outside the church, the River Orchy we followed flow into this lake. Usually I see the monster as out casters but here they have a rabbit!
From the church we could see that there was a castle nearby. Just to figure out how to come to that place. In a sign it says that it was 1000 pounds in fines if we crossed the railroad. But finally we found that one could walk under a bridge and come to the castle, here we have just passed the under the bridge. |

Kilchurn Castle was built 1693 according to this, on another place it says 1475. Loch Awe.
Dunstaffnage:Dunstaffnage Castle.
Now we drive northeastern to the coast, pass the coast town Oban after a while, to much traffic to stop there. Carnassarie:Carnassarie, Kilmartin Glen. Ancient stones. We have them to in Sweden too, about 5000 years old.
|
It was much more to see, but we had heavy rain.
Cairnbaan:Cairnbaan and Crinan Canal, more locks to see.
Cairbaan Hotel, a cup of coffee. Inveraray:
|
Finally the rain stops and a beautiful rainbow appears over the castle. Viewpoint, but nothing to see a policeman told us, we was a little bit out of time so we skipped it. We found a B&B in Tyndrom, it was not so easy to find it. Callander:New day, we have read about a lake that have a steamship, on the way we find this church, Trossachs Church. The sign says: All Welcome!
Loch Katrine:We could read that they once had a steamship here, Sir Walter Scott.
Then we had come to the correct place we looked for. It's a small lake, but I believe they had a lock system between the different lakes so the boat can travel between them. Loch Achray.

Aberfoyle:This was close to Aberfoyle. We now studied the map how to come back to Edinburgh in a short time.
Stoneywood ?This could be Stoneywood, a boy and his girlfriend let their old car rest after the steep roads, the engine has to cool down. The car is an Austin Seven, maybe from the 1930s, you can read more here:
Bo'ness railway station:
As we approach Edinburgh we see this exciting Railway Station. We walk around for a long time and looking, a nice conductor told us about the railway station's history.
|
You must have seen this steam locomotive on movies.
A steam locomotive consume a lot of coal and water, here he is loading coal supply.
Blackness:In Blackness we are not far from Edinburgh after eleven days of car driving in Scotland. As usual we have not seen the tide coming in.
|
Queensferry:Queensferry, A90 Forth Rd Bridge. That was our first part on our tour. Now we have come back, we see this beautiful railway bridge again. Forth Bridge was built in the years 1883 to 1890 and has a length of 2529 meters.
Queensferry, at this place our trip began and it also ends here as well. The journey has been fantastic and many beautiful views to remember. When I wrote down this travel report after ten years it was like that I have done this travel once again. I hope you also gives the opportunity to visit Scotland and maybe got some help or ideas from my travel report. The END
