Day 8, Bus tour to Buda in Budapest:We shall stay at Budapest 5 days and have plenty of time. This day we want to visit the other side of river Danuba, Buda. Google Map over Budapest:This is from a hop on hop off bus tour, mostly. |
Budapest, Pest:We are up late today because of the loud music at night, the clock is now almost 2 pm. Our room was placed at the attic with a sky view. We want to get to the other side of the river, that part of Budapest is Buda. We found a Hop On Hop Off guided tour that was perfect for this. At Wikipedia you find more information about Budapest:
Before we cross the river there will be a round trip on the Pest side of Budapest where we live. We took place on the upper floor to get a free view which let us take photos. But it's difficult, just parts of a second to decide the composition of the photo when the bus move. Perfect weather for a cabriolet bus tour.
Between the houses we got a glimpse of the St. Stephen's Basilica. We could read that the biggest bell weights 2150 kg. At Wikipedia you find more information about St. Stephen's Basilica:
Opera houses are always easy to recognize. Just search for the most splendid building. The opera was opened in 1884. At Wikipedia you find more information about the Opera House:
Next impressive house was the Hall of Art. Opened in 1895 and was reconstructed 1991-1994. At Wikipedia you find more information about the Hall of Art:

Budapest, Buda:Now we cross the river Danuba and come to Buda side of Budapest. Budapest is a combination of the cities, Buda and Pest. The bridge is the Elisabeth Bridge. At Wikipedia you find more information about the Elisabeth Bridge:
Up the hill we see the monument we shall visit and more. Turn right to the Castle. The road is steep up the hill and we are glad that we don't walking. We are now driving along the castle garden. |
The staircase lead through the garden and up to Buda Castle but we continue with the bus. From below we see the Matthias Church. From the terrace in front of Matthias Church we have a fabulous view over Budapest.
At the opposite hill we see Buda Castle, we walk over to that place later. At Wikipedia you find more information about Buda Castle:

The blocks and alleys around the Matthias Church is nice to walk at with a lot of interesting things to look at.
The tower of Matthias Church has a lot of details that you see when you come closer.
My father had old Opel Record cars, they all were very rusty. This car looks to be in mint condition and it's a cabriolet, never seen that before.
|
Hungarian Parliament Building, we were never inside that building, I don't remember why.
At the castle we found this excavation, I have read that this is ruins of an earlier castle.
|
Chain bridge from above. We have now jumped on the bus again. This time it take us to the Citadella which is an old fortress. At Wikipedia you find more information about the Citadella:
Danuba and the Chain Bridge, East is to the right. Back to the harbor on the Eastern side of the river, Pest. The last we thing we do this evening is to take a boat tour on the river. Maybe the name of the tour was "The Seven Bridges of Budapest", this is Elisabeth Bridge. You see the Citadella which we visited on top of the hill. Hydrofoil boat in full action, here you see how it rides on his ski pads. The construction makes very low friction and then fast speeds. Old Castle with Chain Bridge in front. |
The Matthia's Church from river side.
At Wikipedia you find more information about Budapest:
Details of the Liberty bridge whit its beautiful eagles. The market hall that we never visited, New Budapest Galleria. National Theatre. Rakoczi Bridge, the most Southern bridge we visited. |
Elisabeth Bridge. When crossing the street on our way back to the hotel this huge limo stoped in front of us. We still had to walk to the hotel. Still flooding, it looks to be a serious problem.
