From Stockholm to
Germany and Austria by car, 1988

Part 2: From Rosenheim to Salzburg, Hinterbuhl, Vienna:

Today we will leave Germany and cross the border to Austria.

Through Austria we had more than 400 km to drive.


Salzburg Austria:

The first place to visit after we crossed the border to Austria is the city Salzburg, who hasn't seen Sound of Music ?

The entrance to the city is a narrow tunnel through the mountain. We have to wait until the horses has passed by.

Up on the hill is the castle, but in the town on this street we found Mozart's home, the muscian, where he grew up as a child. He was born 1756.

After we had walking around in Salzburg during the day we went out from the city and booked a B&B. At the evening we walk back to the city to take a closer look at the castle Hohensalzburg.

Vienna:

Next stop is in Vienna, this day we wanted some really good food and visited this restaurant. I remember that I came back to this restaurant two weeks later with the company I worked at. The musicians came to our table and asked what music we want them to play, Carina asked for Sole Mio and they played it.


Schönbrunn Palace, Heitzing:

When we are in Vienna one thing is a must, to visit Schöbrunn Palace. We get heavy rain this day and couldn't visit all the places we wanted to see but Schöbrunn palace we visited.

We sat inside the castle in the basement, there was a restaurant here and we could get something to eat for lunch. We stay outside the inner city of Vienna, there was a tram that we could take when we wanted to visit the inner city, the old town of Vienna. Vienna was the only place where we stayed at two days.

We also visited a horse show, the Spanish riding school in Vienna.

The second day in Vienna we want to see a church with skeletons and an old mine. Along the road we see this old ruin of a fortress, just wonder what's the history behind this fortress.

It still raining, we are passing through an old stone bridge, see the really steep cliffs hanging over us.

Monastery:

I haven't figure out what the name of this monastery was, but it was close to Vienna. Maybe it could be Heiligenkreuz stift, but I don't think so. I have no answer why they have skeletons like this, but it was exiting to see.

Seegrotte Hinterbruhl:

This is an abandoned plaster mine that you can visit.

The mina are today partly filled with water. They had small battery operated boats that we could cruise around with in the mine. During the WW II they manufactured air crafts in this mine.

In the evening we are back to Vienna and the old center, we walked to the opera house and the cathedral.

St. Stephen's Cathedral, Vienna:

In the basement of the cathedral there are catacombs, we never got the chance to visited them, it had been exiting.

This is the last thing we see of Vienna, the Austrian Parliament Building. We take the tram to our stay outside the city.
