Chrysler Crossfire
Radio replacement

This is one information page of my collection of what I have repaired on my Crossfire.

Note:
You should not do any repair on your car if you don't have enough experience and knowledge! You use this information at your own risk! Don't blame me if something goes wrong.

Content:

If you have a Mercedes SLK R170 with a 320 engine it's almost exact the same.

Note:
You have to work with the electric parts when removing the Radio and its booster. Disconnect the battery, the negative terminal ! When disconnecting the battery the alarm and radio will be reset, be sure to have any codes that's needed!

4, Rear speakers:

Is there any sense to replace the rear speakers ?

I don't have any plans to replace the rear speakers now, but in future maybe. They are not of full range, more a sub woofer, and more they have dual coils. The impedance of each coil is 4 ohm. All these things make them little special and also a little bit more complicated to integrate with the new radio.

Dimensions of original speakers:

The installation is very special, the 6.5" inch element sit behind here and it's tilted 90 degrees. The front protection frame is 14 cm high. Above is the seat when it's at the back position.

The width is 10 cm. The hole behind is a little bit bigger. The speaker element is screwed to a plastic distance that hold it in place. It's deep behind but not so wide. Is it possible to install a 6x9" coaxial full range speaker here ? I don't think so but I will investigate. A low profile design it must be. I can design some 3D-printed distances the hold it in place. The space behind the seat is 25 mm. I will post more photos later, but take that to the summer.
