Sagittarius, geology guided tour at Öland

Included in the star party there was also a guided geology tour. Both I and my girlfriend are very interested in geology and according to the plan it should be on Saturday. It was not far away from where we did the observations, close to Degerhamn which is on the Southwest coast of Öland.

Is geology connected to astronomy? Yes, all material we are made of and our Earth comes from the ashes of stars.

We meet at the "People's House" and from there we go in a car caravan to the geology area.

Degerhamn lime industry:

From the parking lot we went into the forest to look for the traces from the old lime industry.

This is Alum shale in natural.

I took a closer look at the Alum, one thing to use this Alum is to use it as fuel, partly petroleum.

We walk along the ditch to the next stop.

Jörgen informs us about the geology and the old industry that were once here.

Concrete pillars that was a fundament for an oven I think. They had a railway for transportation here when the lime mine was active.

Towards South Bird lake.

After the mining industry has closed, a pit has formed, nowadays it is a bird lake.

We ended at the museum of Degerhamn at the harbor. In the museum you find a lot of information about mining industry, the old seafarer, the fishermen and the coast village around.

Now we had to hurry back to the "People's House" where it shall be speechs form the astronomy members. I held two speechs: One about big focuser with slip problem and another about big size field flattener and the needed adapters.
