Here I have collected three of my trips to Nynäshamn, two of them by steam train. |
3, Steam trains travel:Old technology like steam locomotives are exiting. Once again we travel by a steam train to visit the Christmas market in Nynäshamn.. Google Map over the railway from Stockholm City to Nynäshamn:From Stockholm City to Nynäshamn by steam train, Sweden 2009 |
Stockholm City train terminal:At the Stockholm City train terminal. It's in the middle of December but not very cold this day. The train has already arrived and waiting for us. Is it the same steam locomotive that we traveled with four years ago ? I think so, at least it's the same number 1136 we saw at the museum two years ago. It's a SJ B 1136, a favorite in replay. The boiler is boiling and is ready to take us to Nynäshamn. Locomotive built in Sweden by NOHAB. I was once explained what device this was, but now forgotten it, can it be some reducer for the stem pressure or ? Inside the drivers place it's very dark. But I got a soft photo of the interior at least. The nice train crew having a last talk before we go. At Wikipedia you find more information about Stockholm City's train station:
Time to pay the tickets. Here you find more information about the Nynäshamn's Railway Museum and when next travel will occur:

Roof lights, I think they are powered by acytylene gas. This is Årstaviken we are Crossing. The bridge in front of us is the new Årsta train bridge which double the capacity. Walking over to the next train carriage, be carefully, don't fall down ! It's a kind of fast travel, when the trains was introduced two hundred years ago people wasn't sure the human body could survive this speed. It was unnatural, horse speed was enough. Nynäshamn's station:After an hour we was at our destination, the Nynäshamn's station. Some work with the wagon going on. They have to move the steam locomotive to the other side of the train before going back to Stockholm City. A big diesel locomotive assists, heavy nice sound from the huge two stroke engine. It's a SJ T21 90 or 108. Christmas celebration in the harbor, very nice but close to the sea it's a bit cold. |
An alternative to the steam train was to take a steam boat. You can mix between them. In the middle of the day it started to rain. It was better to go home by the steam train this rainy day, now we leave Nynäshamn after a nice day. Stockholm City:Back to Stockholm City. Two ladies in timely clothes, very nice looking.
