One week in Turkey, Jeep Safari in Manavgat mountains, part 3: |
Jeep Safari in Manavgat mountains:The day before we booked a Jeep Safari and now in the morning we are ready to go. A big Jeep and a very narrow bridge.
Our first glimpse of the aqueducts that bring the water in to ancient Side.
We read that the water supplies are 32 km long! A system of aqueducts and tunnels.

The Jeep is open so we had a free view out, but the roads are jumpy so it was a bit shaky. If we had want we could had our own Jeep to drive, but we preferred to be driven so we could take photos. Now we heading to the hydro power station higher up in the mountains. This is the Face Mountain, maybe you see why? The nose is the highest point in the middle.
Our Jeep is a robust Land Rover, English built. Time for a brake and have something to drink.

Ant nest, or? More of the aqueducts, this part was very well preserved, it runs all over the valley. Entrence to Oymapinar hydro power station. The dam is 185 meter high and was built in 1984. The overflow outcast.
300 millions cubic meters of water.
|
It was from nearby here the Romans connected their aqueducts to get fresh water down to Side.
And now a lunch!
|
As usual when we eat we have a view over water, it looks that the water level can go up and down several meters.
|
Next stop on our Jeep Safari was a park with animals, but we were tired and just sat down outside.
Our last stop, the wonderful waterfall at Manavgat river north of town.
Back to Side. |
We took a long walk along the beach.
Back in old center and the contrast from modern restaurants.
