Chrysler Crossfire
Replacing sway bar bushings

This is one information page of my collection of what I have repaired on my Crossfire.

Note:
You should not do any repair on your car if you don't have enough experience and knowledge! You use this information at your own risk! Don't blame me if something goes wrong.

Content:

If you have a Mercedes SLK R170 with a 320 engine it's almost exact the same, but some of them have different diameters of the sway bar.

Note:
You have to work with critical parts when doing work on suspension. Only do this if you have enough knowledge !

1, Checking the old sway bar bushings:

Sometimes I can hear a "clonking" sound from the front suspension. After a while I have found that it could be the sway bar and its rubber bushings that cause this sound. Also at the yearly inspection of my car they gave me a note that the outer rubber bushing is worn.

Front left side:

This is the inner sway bar rubber bushing viewed from above.

Same bushing but view from under, much easier too see it from here. Both of the inner rubber bushings are tight and okay.

This is the outer sway bar rubber bushings which is not okay. You can clearly see that there is a space between the sway bar and the rubber bushing. The same problem on the right side.

When I ordered new bushings I noticed there are plenty of them in different sizes. My car which is a standard Crossfire has the following dimension: Inner bushing's inner diameter 25 mm, outer bushing's inner diameter is 18 mm. I got this from measurement of my own sway bar to be sure.

These are the four rubber bushings I got, I'm not sure yet that they will fit, it was complicated to find them. At least the inner hole diameter is correct, 25 mm and 18 mm.
