Steam trains:

Old technology like steam locomotives are exiting. One day I saw an ad in a magazine, there was a tour with a steam locomotive from Stockholm to Katrineholm, wow, that was something I must do. It started in Västberga industry area, just walking distance from where I lived at that time.

I took these photographs with my first digital camera, a Olympus compact camera. They are a bit noisy but there are many photos, they helped me to write down this story.

Västberga industrial area:

I walk down to the industrial area, just 10 minutes walk from my home, it's always exiting here. Today the weather is very grey and we have fog and rain.

When walking around here I to my surprise found my neighbour Maria. Was she interested in steam trains ? Maybe, but I remember that she was born in Katrineholm.

My wagon:

This wagon was built year 1891 by Kockums Mekaniska Verkstad in Malmö.

Some data:

• weight: 27 metric ton
• length: 17 meter
• third class

Now others are coming to participate the travel.

57 tons Steam locomotive:

The tender is fully loaded with coal.

Last minute check and adjustments.

The locomotive has five old wagons connected, one of them is used to heat the other wagons.

Look at all the details that make the locomotive to work, over hundred years old technology. The principle, heated water.

Locomotive built year 1915, how many of our nowadays train will run 100 years in the future?

High speed running, 70 km/h:

In the early days of trains they didn't believe human could survive this speed !

Sparreholm:

A stop is done to let other stressed trains to pass by.

Katrineholm:

The train is now moving towards Katrineholm's railway station.

I have memories when I and my mother took the train to Sundsvall in the 1960s, maybe the windows looked something like this.

Katrineholm is the end station to this tour. Now a lot of maintenance waiting the locomotive.
