My cruises around Baltic Sea:
|
Information:You found Vaxholm East of Stockholm, about 25 km. It have always been an important defense from earlier enemies, most Russia and Denmark. Info:
|
Vaxholm's castell:These photographs are from the castell, a separate island just 300 meters from Vaxhom. The harbor of Vaxholm's fortress. These photos are taking 2012, now in 2019 there is an electric ferry between Vaxholm and the fortress.
There are canon balls everywhere. Openings in the wall where they had there riffles pointed to the enemies. Sea mines was an effective and non expensive weapon. With these they could block the canals from attacking ships. Info about sea mines (Swedish and English):
Old Bofors 40 mm canon, still in use 40 years ago when I did my military duty. Info about Boforfor's 40 mm canon (Swedish and English):
This canon looks very old, maybe from the war WW I. |

Riffles in the pipe make the canon ball to rotate and then more stable.
Wooden wheels. Swedish dust lids! If a fortress been under siege the water supply is very important, this is an old hand driven water pump. Any enemy ships out there ?
