Kalmar in Sweden

Kalmar information:

From Kalmar there is a bridge to the island Öland, Sweden's second largest island.

Kalmar:

After we had spent three days on the island Öland we head for home, on the way we stopped at Kalmar city to visit the old castle.

The castle Kalmar Slott.

The castle has a moat which all old castle should have.

A square inside the walls of Kalmar castle.

Not many of our castles are in this good shape.

We had a lot of time and walk around the castle too see all parts of it.

The inner yard, on the wall on right side it can be seen that it has been a portal earlier.

Defense wall with a battery of canons. No soldiers today but a lot of rabbits.

Both Denmark and Russia has attacked Kalmar in the history.

View over the Baltic Sea from where the enemies were expected to come.

The holes in the grass field are from the rabbits.

When we walked around the defense walls we found a lot of rabbits jumping around.

Now we left the castle and looking for a restaurant where we could eat.

Leave the castle and walk back over the bridge.

Prison house:

Prison house of Kalmar, close to the castle. The prison house opened in 1852 and still in use.

The bridge over to Kalmar castle. There were a lot of things that distracted us and we have to stop and taking photos. At last we found a restaurant North of the Castle. We also booked a stay for the night.
