Lake Mälaren around, 2024
|
The motorcycle tour starts at 11 am and we where here 40 minutes before. We didn't know how many cars that will arrive and we wanted to be sure to have somewhere to park the car. And no, we don't have a motorcycle, not even a driver license for it, but we feel it's interesting to look at motorcycles. This is the old High Road no 1, the main road to Stockholm, and we are a couple of km West of Salem church. We brought chairs, coffee, soda and cakes to have a nice time here. The weather is perfect and about 23 degree C. The first bikers come toward us and the clock isn't 11 am yet. I try to recognize what motorcycles there are. This must be a German BMW, from the 1960s maybe. A motorcycle does not have such large trunks. But it can be solved with a trailer. This is a big V-twin machine, maybe a Suzuki. Covered with hoods to reduce air resistance. Driving a motorcycle for hours can become tiring for the body, exercises for the legs. The motorcycle caravan continue towards Södertälje.
Some people like it big, a Honda Gold Wing with a trailer. |
Another V-Twin, but this time it's the grand father of all big motor cycles, an American Harley Davidsons. Equipped with three big bags, he is ready for long trips. One bad thing with the place where we parked the car, we have the sun from wrong direction. This is the first stage along the tour, later more and more bikers connect to the caravan. If we had been on the North side of the lake Mälaren it had been better, sun in a more preferable direction and more bikers. Just wonder, how far away have all these bikers came from ? This is more cafe races style motorcycles. Suddenly an old Ford arrive, from late 1930s, the tear drop lights came 1937 I think. Wave your hands and you get a lot of response from the bikers. An old classic chopper built on a Harley Davidson motorcycle. It looks like a Suzuki. A two-wheeled tank, must be a Honda Gold wing. |

Even three wheelers are motor cycles. Still I'm allowed to drive these with my car driver license.
Is it a tent I see in the package? They have arranged campsites where you can spend the night. Nice sunny days like these are perfect for camping.
There are so many different kind of motorcycles nowadays, I don't know the name of them. |
I think it has a label with the text "Dakar", a famous race in Africa's desert for cars and motorcycles.
One more old BMW, it's a twin boxer engine. The Swedish Police used these motorcycles long time ago. A Swedish Volvo PV from the late 1950s. A Willys Jeep, manufactured in hundreds of thousands for the WW II and very popular today. Going for Halloween party ? |

The label say GPZ, maybe related to Kawasaki. When I was a teenager there were two big motor cycles that competed, Honda and Kawasaki, both had 750 cm3 engines. Honda 4 cylinders inline engines and 4 stroke. Kawasaki 3 cylinders inline and 2 stroke. If I remember correct the Kawasaki was faster but the Honda sounded better. That was in the 1970s.
It's really fanny to sit here and watch the show.
The bike looks like something from the Disney movie Tron. |
Looks like a really old BMW, but in earlier days there were others who also manufactured motorcycles with twin boxer engines. Rabbits look looks to be very popular today.
Another three wheeler, someone told me that they go like hell.

I have thought about this event since I was very young. I tried to visit this event last year, but I miss understood the time and missed it. The year before it was rain. So this sunny day was very appreciated.
Last year it was 10'000 motor cycles that did this run, maybe even more this year with this perfect weather.
A three wheeler Morgan, these car or motorcycles are really nice. It looks very old but I'm sure it's only a couple of years old. Morgan only made them by order and it's a long waiting list. A Triumph with a very big three cylinder inline engine, a monster machine. |
We have been here for two hours and enjoying the motorcycles. Now it's not so many more motorcycles coming and we decided to drive home. A late Honda Gold Wing pass by. On the way home we got to see more motorcycles coming. What a great day ! |
