5, Glow compartment switch:Going on with the next anti theft sensor. This time it's the one in the glow compartment. Mercedes people are serious, even the glow compartment has a theft sensor. Detach the bulb bracket:The lamp bracket that hold the bulb and the theft sensor. First push it to the left and then pull it down, maybe with help of some tool. Be very careful, it's plastic and it's easy to broke. Halfway out, pull it some millimeters down until the hooks on the right side gets free. There are two switches here, one for the light and one for the theft alarm. It's the blue micro switch which is for the theft alarm. Testing the switch, it didn't moved as it should, too high friction. When I force the lever out the switch closed and the instrument says zero ohm, no resistance. Now I know that the switches give alarm when they are closed if all of them work the same way. Pull out the second connector, the one for the light. It has a lock mechanism on the backside that must be released, pull it in and then gently pull out the connector. A lot of dirt inside here. When the lever could not move sideways the switches doesn't reach the other position. Clean it up and put some grease on the lever and it worked fine. The right arrow point on the switch that turn on the light bulb. The connectors on the left side. The hooks on the right side that hold the bracket in place. Testing the switch with the bulb in place. Works fine now, but the bulb could be replaced by something better. Note: It only light up when key is in ACC position (1st click). I have a LED bulb replacement. When I compare it with the bulb I found it to be a couple of millimeters longer. The original bulb is 37 mm long and the LED is 41 mm long. I could with some force get it in place, but next time I buy new LED lights I choose a shorter one. The LED must be inserted in correct direction, otherwise it don't lit up. The + and - must be correct. Change direction if it don't light up and it should light up. To insert the lamp bracket, push it to the left to the bottom and then gently push it upwards on the right side. The bracket's hooks must be inside the panel. Now I have day time light in the glow compartment. But how about the theft alarm ? It still turn on the siren when I activate it. It must be the doors or the tail gate theft switch because it's the only ones left, or ? |
