Day 12, From Rovinj to Porec: |
Rovinj has been a fantastic nice little town to stay at. And that a place we wasn't even sure we would stay at. Rovinj, waiting for the bus:It have now come to the third day in Rovinj and we are ready to take the bus to the next town, it's Porec. The bus need 50 minutes to take us to Porec. Here we go over the bridge over the Limski Kanal. Porec:After we had arrived at the bus station we take a short walk down to the old town of Porec. The apartment is placed in the middle of the town in the old part. Here is a tunnel we have to go through to come to the apartment. The staircase up to the apartment. It's on the second floor and it's an old building. The owner do some of the renovation by himself. Our first walk in the old town. This is the Eufrasiusbasilikan, 1500 years old. At the park J Dobrile we found this gate. We couldn't find any information about it, but looks too modern to be a Roman building. We haven't eat any lunch yet, go to the harbor and looking for an open restaurant. Of course with a sea view. We order a lunch, you never know what they mean by small or big. I thought I need a big toast, I got four of them, little bit more than I needed. |

After the lunch we deiced to take a walk around the old town and follow the harbor. Even this day we have a great weather. Here is the Casino and the hotel Palazzo. The water is very clear but we didn't find any who swim or take a bath. The Northern side of town is till in the shadow, it's only one restaurant along this harbor. An opening in the defense wall and we sneak in, it leads us into the street close where we started our morning walk. Just a look and then walk back out on the outside of the wall. Bondulmier Tower:This is the end of the old town. On this side of the town there are not many boats. The square Trg Slobode, at one corner we found an outdoor market. |
We now walk back to the Southern harbor of the town. At the street Obala Marsala Tita we found this building. It was something with the communal function but I don't remember what. Was this the Town hall, or ? The defense tower Rofonda at street Obala Marsala Tita. It was built 1474 during Venice era. It was a cafe in this tower with a view from the roof, but it was closed. Walk into the old town once again, now we want to see some old Roman remnants. We looked at this, after a while we decided, this was something new. Watch up, no falling bricks to the head ! We have now come to the really old part of the town, a square, but a bit confuse, where are we ? The Roman House:Nearby we found the Roman House that we had read about. On our travels in Turkey we saw buildings similar to this. |

Porec's parks are decorated with a lot of flowers. A narrow alley lead us to the next Roman remains. The Roman temple Neptune:The temple Neptune from the Roman era. It's not so much left of it. Around the corner is another Roman ruin with a lot of building blocks laying around. All these impressive details that some skilled person made 2000 years ago and still here to look at today. Construction details, iron bars was placed in these holes to hold the building blocks together. Water channels in a drain system. Here are indications of a Roman forum. |
In one corner, the square Trg Marafor. These are remains of a Roman forum. The last square to look at today, the Trg Frana Supila. The Roman House we looked at earlier is in the upper left corner. Back to the tunnel that lead us to our room, a rest and we are ready for the evening walk and dinner. At the nearby street Eufrasiana we found this Spanish influenced restaurant. We like Spanish food and decided to stay here for the evening dinner. This photo tells everything, it tasted very well. Back to our room, tomorrow we move to the last town to visit on our Croatia tour. More information about Porec:
