Rust problem and protection

This is one information page of my collection of what I have repaired on my Crossfire.

If you have a Mercedes SLK R170 with a 320 engine it's almost exact the same.

Note:
You have to work with the electric parts when removing some devices. Disconnect the battery, the negative terminal ! When disconnecting the battery the alarm and radio will be reset, be sure to have any codes that's needed!

1, Behind front fenders:

All cars made of steel have problem with rust more or less. Here I take a look at my Chrysler Crossfire at common places where there can be rust problems.

Front fenders:

I have noticed that the tire rubber the inner fender inside the wheel house. It looks to be something behind it that pushes it out.

The screws that hold the inner fender are T25 torx. I only removed one of them and then bend the inner fender out so I can see what's behind.

What a lot of dirt, that can cause rust problems, I have to remove it with the vacuum cleaner.

I add an extender on the vacuum cleaner's hose, I want to reach all the way back behind the fender.

Started to vacuum clean at the bottom and use a knife to loosen the dirt so the vacuum cleaner can sucked in. I bend the panel slightly down with a screw driver, don't use to much force, the plastic panel can be broken.

Inside this panel was a huge collection of dirt, I'm very glad that I found this before the rust holes come. I do this on the left side too, but not very much dirt on that side. The inner fender also moved back after this and now the clearance against the wheel is better.

To do a better job the inner fender must be removed. But to get rid of the dirt was a good starting point.
