My Astrophotography
Auroras

This is new to me, in November I was out to a dark place with my friend Rolf to take some deep sky images. He told me that this night there will be auroras. I thought, okay, but here in Stockholm there will be very weak and of no interest. But what wrong I was, it was fantastic. So now I want to catch the next aurora with my DSLR and not only the smart phone.

Comments:

If I had taken those photographs today (2025) I would use the following of my equipment. Here is a tutorial how I plan to setup the aurora equipment: Photographing auroras.

Camera Lens / Telescope Reducer / Barlow Mount Comment
Canon 6D Tamron 24-70mm f/2.8 x1 Tripod Wide field
Canon 6D Tokina 20-35mm f/3.5-4.0 x1 Tripod Extreme Wide field
Canon 6D Sigma 16mm f/2.8 fisheye x1 Tripod Extreme Wide field

Auroras are moving fast. To not blur them, no longer exposure than 4 seconds.
