Visby in Sweden

Visby information:

Visby is the main city of the island Gotland, Swedish biggest island. In earlier time it belonged to Denmark.

Visby:

Harbor of Visby. There are cruiser ships coming both from Nynäshamn in Stockholm and Kalmar in Småland.

From the ferry we have a great view over the old town of Visby. We did this cruise 2008.

The old ring defense wall of Visby is still intact with its all gates. It is 3.5 km long and 800 years old.

There are a lot of ruins of churches inside the city wall of Visby.

Karamell Boden, it's a candy store but sorry to say it was closed.

No problem to stay here two days and just walking around and looking on all the details and old buildings.

One of the rare more modern buildings.

Visby big square and the bakery, we sat down here for a while, coffee, Cola and cakes.

At the big square there is a big ruin after a church, the S:ta Karin church.

We don't have any earth quakes in Sweden and walls still stands up.

Torgkassen, a food store at the square.

Visby was a very rich town in old days, it belong to the Hanseatic League.

Yllet, I think they sell clothes here manufactured of wool and they have a lot of sheep at Gotland.

Some of the houses are built into the City wall.

Defense tower, there are a lot of them in the City wall.

Visby is famous for its all roses, this is something else.
