Hitachi Television remote repair
Hitachi RC 43140 remote repair:
Our remote to the television got broke and I must repair it or buy a new one.
First I take it apart to see if there is something obvious what's wrong with it.
The problem is the buttons OK and Right doesn't take the commands anymore.
It has got harder and harder to get them to respond until it broke completely.
Note:
You use this information at your own risk! Don't blame me if something goes wrong !
The model of the remote is the Hitachi RC 43140, but it's similar to many other as well.
I use a knife and put the blade in between the joint of the upper and lower lid.
Gently pull them apart, bit by bit.
All the parts that build up the remote.
The circuit board is one side of the buttons that make electric connection when you push a button.
The five buttons in the center is a bit different.
They have a separate plastic device that makes the "click" when maneuver the icon on the TV-screen.
The whole circuit board was covered by some oil, maybe some drink we spilled on the remote.
But it could also be part of the construction.
I wet a cloth with water and soap and wash it away gently, too much water and the circuit board will be destroyed !
If you have the same oil on your device, maybe it should be there, keep it !
The button part, a rubber with contact points of conducting material, all but not the 5 center buttons which use the above membrane.
I can immediately see that the contact surface is worn out on the two buttons that are used the most.
The OK button and the Right button.
If I had some conducting paint I could fill the pits with that.
For example conducting paint used to repair the defroster element on a cars rear window.
Now I didn't have that at home. Instead I used aluminum foil, cut some small pieces of it an placed in the pits.
It wasn't so easy to cut this small pieces of the aluminum foil, but I succeeded after a while.
My plan was to glue them into place with a Superglue.
The first one is glued in place and after that the other one.
I did some test of the remote without the upper lid installed.
It worked perfect.
Now when I know it worked again I assembled it together.
Check that everything inside is in correct position and then gently push the lids together.
It's plastic so handle with care, not too much force.
A working remote again, but for long will this repair last ?
