A trip to Northern Sweden, 2025Some of the stops: Nora, Mora, Älvdalen, Dellensjöarna and Sandviken. Gunilla and I want to take a trip to Northern Sweden. I want to see some astronomy related places and Gunilla places with relatives from the 18th century. Day 1, Nora:Map Stockholm to Nora:The first part of the trip was a 230km long drive on small roads to Nora from Stockholm. More information about Nora:
Where there are links in English I use them, otherwise they are in Swedish. Nyhyttan:
We had pre booked a B&B in Nyhyttan. It's the yellow house behind the red one where we stayed.
A relax room on the ground floor. Here you can eat your own breakfast if you had brought it with you. We booked with included breakfast.
Our room was on the second floor.
Nice view from our window, very quiet. Nora:
From Nyhyttan to Nora city we have 25km to drive. We parked our car on the main square and walk from there.
Nora is one of Swedish old towns that has a lot of old wooden houses preserved.
The city center isn't many blocks and we walked around on all these streets.
Take the direction to the harbor where the old train station is.
Along the walk we see more of these old wooden houses.
The train station which also is a museum. |
Old red painted wagon.
You can travel by this old trains to the nearby Pershyttan.
Railway station, an old brick building.
Today the railway station is used as a tourist center.
One of the old locomotives, very rusty and need some paint.
After the trains station we follow the street along the lake Norasjön.
After all walks in the town we got a hunger feeling, walk back to the main square where there were several restaurants.
It's really beautiful with these old red houses and the green vegetation. |

Back to main square and today we chose a pizza restaurant. We were not very hungry and shared a pizza.
After the dinner, a walk in the other direction before we leave the town.
Town city border.
Not only the houses are old, I think this is an English Ford Anglia from the 1950s. Pershyttan:
Before we go back to Nyhyttan we visit Pershyttan. I visited this place 20 years ago.
This wagon belong to Nora train museum, last dinner already served.
Long time ago there were no electricity, water and wind was the power source.
This one looks interesting.
A warning sign tells us that we must look into this building. |
It's a big water wheel inside the building.
It's the water pumps that need power to pump the water away from the mine. No electric wires, push pull beams deliver the mechanical power.
Carpenter's building.
We follow the water stream upwards.
After a while we arrive at a blast furnace.
Another machine that crushes the ore, called Stamper in Swedish.
Here they melt the ore and get iron from it.
There are many small rivers up here divided to different water wheels.
Here it's calm, time for us to go back to Nyhyttan. |
