A visit to GothenburgGothenburg is the second biggest city in Swedish city and it's on the Western coast. We chose to take the train, 500 km and it takes about three and a half hour, if the train hasn't any trouble. Map over Gothenburg:More information about Gothenburg:
Day 1, Arriving at Gothenburg:We got some problem with the train, it went out of electricity and some other problems, a delay of 80 minutes. But still very pleasing to take the train instead of the car. Now we don't have to worry about finding parking places. The costs is about the same. Central station:![]() It's very practical when traveling by train, you go from one city center to another city center. No long transport to airports and no check in procedure. ![]() We will stay on a boat and it's not a long walk from the Central station. But we found that they do work everywhere and the streets are blocked. ![]() In the background, the Lipstick building. That's close to where our hotel boat is anchored. ![]() Astoria, our home the following days. The weather forecast says rain the whole week and it's really raining, but we brought our umbrellas. ![]() The nearby ship is Gustaf af Klint, earlier it was placed in Stockholm. ![]() Checking in and walk up to our room. ![]() After one hour it clear up and the rain stopped. From the boat we have a great view. My father was a sailor from 1937 to 1945, maybe he was at this harbor. ![]() The harbor here is still active and a lot of ships arrive and go. ![]() We take an evening walk to the city center. Even if there is no rain it's very windy, almost a storm and difficult to walk. ![]() Another boat at the harbor, much older and even this has a hotel. |
Lilla Bommen:![]() We have now come to Lilla Bommen, they built it 1973. ![]() From this harbor we take the direction towards the city center. Östra Hamngatan:![]() We came to the street Östra Hamngatan and continue walking. ![]() Just before the square Gustaf Adolfs torg is a building called Börsen. Perhaps they traded goods from the ships that docked at the port at this place. ![]() Gothenburg has a lot of canals as we have in Stockholm. ![]() A bit hungry and we enter the alleys to find some restaurant. This is the street Fredsgatan. ![]() The street Trädgårdsgatan take us to the Eastern moat. ![]() On the other side of the moat we see a nice garden. That will be our evening walk. Kungsportsbron:![]() A nearby bridge take us to the other side of the moat. ![]()

![]() Into the park and looking back from where we came. ![]()
![]() Most outdoor places are closed now because of the earlier rain. Stora Teatern:![]() Behind the fountain we see the Stora Teatern (Main theatre). Trädgårdsföreningen:![]() This part of the park belongs to Trädgårdsföreningen, the gates are open and we enter the area. ![]() We follow the walk path along the moat and can view the old houses in the old town. ![]() A park has flowers and we found this. ![]() The Trädgårdsföreningen office maybe. Another more famous building is the Palm tree building, but it's closed for renovation. ![]() Just before we leave the park we found this house, Alfons Åberg's culture house. He had a children cartoon channel on TV. ![]() We have walked in a circle and now we are back at Queen's Square and the Central station. |
![]() The moat is wide and there are boats on it, called Paddor (Toads). Fattighusån:![]() There is a lock in the city that connect to the moat, the river on the other side is Poor man's house river. ![]() I'm not sure, maybe the main Post office once. The bridge take us to the left and Queen's Square. ![]() The sign on the lock says 1873. ![]() Back to Central station. Drottningtorget:![]() A look back to Queen's Square, here are most of the trams pass through. ![]() Walking back to our new home. It's a bit tricky but now we know which way to take. ![]() They are building so many new buildings here, some are not only big, could look nice too. |
