4, Workstation:More and more software for astro image processing are coming and every time I change my camera it has even more pixels. All this the computer must handle when doing image processing. Because of that I have to change computer once again: Old setup:
These twin 24 inch monitors has served me very well during many years, they have relative high resolution 1280x1200 each. But now there are more demand, high resolution images, 4K videos and others. They take a lot of space on the desktop, 110 cm wide together. But I will miss this twin setup, very convenient to have two surfaces separated from each other. Other must have things can be seen in the background, Epson scanner, old today but hard to find these days. 3D-printer is a must if you are building your equipment by your self, DIY. This Delta printer only occupy a very small area of the desk top.
The computer has already been replaced, the old to the left. Intel 7 with 16 GB RAM, not too bad even today. The new power house to the right. Ryzen 3900, 12 core and 36 GB RAM. It's an old Game computer which got a new life in my home. As a game computer it's not very special with todays standard. But I save a lot of money to buy a used computer like this. I'm not keen on spending a lot of money on stuff that get worthless in a few years.
The new monitor, a big 43 inch, with that I only need one monitor and can still have more windows open on the screen. Only 95 cm wide, I save 15 cm, a bit more height but that doesn't matter, long distance to the roof. It's an used 4K TV with HDMI inputs, it's much more energy efficient relative the other two old guys. What could be a problem is that the angle relative the screen vary a lot when sitting so close as I will do, 80-90 cm. But looks to work better than I thought. The uniformity of the light from the screen is worse. But this is a test and it didn't cost much used. If I get satisfied with its size I can buy a better one later with more modern technique. Other nice things, 130mm APO telescope to the right. Weather station at the window, simple one but I get the relative Humidity and out door temperature from it. Tomorrow I will connect the monitor to the computer, will I get some new trouble then? :-)
Now the monitor has been connected to the computer. It start up as it should, no problem for the computer to find the monitor. What's still left to do is to calibrate the monitor, shouldn't be any bigger problem I hope. What can cause some problem is the monitors dynamic regulation of the contrast, best to shut off I think.
